Season Three (2015)

Sergeant James Gill (ret.) – Host

Born in San Antonio, TX to John and Mary Gill, James has been married 8 years to his beautiful wife, Crystal Gill, and they have 6 beautiful children.

His grandfather and father were both in the Navy, and that influenced him to join the Marine Corps in 2004.

In 2005,James did his first tour in Afghanistan, and in 2006 a second tour in Iraq. In April of 2006, he was severely wounded by two IED explosions. As a result, he lost his right leg and left eye, and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was sent home to San Antonio to BAMC and the Center for the Intrepid for physical therapy. In June 2008, he had a revision to his amputation due to a staph infection. It was not long after that James discovered his passion for Competitive Shooting.

His interest in Competitive Shooting really began as a rebellion against not being allowed to re-qualify for rifle after he was injured. James was now considered a “liability” due to having only one eye. Oh the irony…. as fate would have it, he would later become the head coach for the United States Marine Combat Shooting team and the first Marine to become a professional shooter in 3Gun. What started as a hobby, quickly turned into his dream job.

In 2010, James re-enlisted and became the Head Coach for the Marine Combat Shooting Team where he remained until November 30, 2014 when, unfortunately, he was medically retired from the Marine Corps.

During his time in the Corps he obtained the following expertise and awards:

  • Recipient of two Purple Hearts
  • Certified NRA Instructor
